MICS 2022: a national household survey on tablets
Balcostics led the fieldwork for Jamaica's Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey.

UNICEF Jamaica needed a field firm that could run a national household survey on tablets. Balcostics Research was prime field contractor for MICS 2022, the Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey. Fieldwork ran in 2021 and 2022.
The field operation
The sample covered all 14 parishes. The questionnaire was programmed in CSPro, the package the programme specified. We recruited more than 60 interviewers and trained them on the instrument, the tablet and the household field procedures before any team went to an enumeration area. Supervisors stayed with the teams in every parish in the sample.
The response
The sample drew 7,903 dwellings. Of the 7,401 found occupied, 7,118 households completed the interview, a response rate of 96.2%. We kept that accounting explicit, case by case, so analysts could use the household file without rebuilding it.
Running a round like this
A new household round is scoped from its own contract. If your programme names CSPro, we field in CSPro, as we did here. If it names SurveyCTO, we use SurveyCTO. If the package is open, we can use the myVoice field collector. The mode notes are on CAPI and CATI surveys and data collection in Jamaica.
Write to us with the sample size, the parishes and the CAPI package if you want a household round staffed the same way.
